About document delivery

We offer electronic delivery of articles & book chapters from the library's collection. This is free for UA students, faculty, staff and designated campus colleagues (including affiliates, affiliate partners, associates, and associate partners).

Books and other library materials can also be delivered for free to UA affiliates who reside more than 30 miles from the University.

What items can I request?

Media (videos, DVDs, etc.) and Special Collection items cannot be provided. UA instructors can request video streaming of our media materials for classroom use.

Who can use this service?

This is a free service for all UA affiliates.

Other users can purchase articles or book chapters from the library’s print collection at a cost of $15 for up to 20 pages from a single volume or microfilm reel. For articles or chapters that exceed 20 pages, $5 will be charged for each additional one to ten pages. Delivery is by email. Email us to make a request or for more information.

How do I access the requested item?

Article and book chapter requests are sent to your email with a link to a PDF document.

Library books and other materials are shipped via Federal Express. Be sure to enter your mailing address and choose "Home delivery" as your pickup location before requesting materials.

How long can items be used?

Library books and loaned materials: Your lending period will be the same as for materials checked out in person. View borrowing privileges.

Articles and book chapters: Available online through your account for 30 days.

Can I renew an item?

Requests delivered through Document Delivery can be renewed just like any other library item. Go to your library account to renew your items.

How do I return items?

Distance users should email us to request a return shipping label to return their materials at no charge.

Can you ship materials outside the United States?

We can ship library books to faculty, students and staff who currently reside outside of the United States. International delivery takes 2-3 weeks. We will cover the cost of shipping when sending materials, but you will be responsible for return shipping via air service (Airmail, DHL).
