The University of Arizona Press authors receive awards, acclaim

Congratulations!

Reyes Ramirez is one of the five finalists for the 2023 New York Public Library Young Lions Fiction Award for The Book of Wanderers. Established in 2001, this $10,000 award is given each spring to a writer (age 35 or younger) for a novel or a collection of short stories. Ramirez and his guests plan to attend the ceremony and celebration in New York on June 15 when the winner will be announced. More

Dan Arreola won 2023 American Association of Geographers Award for Postcards from the Baja California Border. Arreola focuses on four border towns—Tijuana, Mexicali, Tecate, and Algodones—during the first half of the twentieth century. Postcards creates a vivid picture of what life was like for tourists and residents, from their perspectives, of these towns in the early and mid-twentieth century. More

Michelle Téllez won 2023 National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies (NACCS) Book Award for Border Women and the Community of Maclovio Rojas. The selection committee described the book as "a unique contribution to community studies. Téllez tells of a community creating a space for survival and opportunities to thrive within the colonial space of two countries. Téllez provides us with how agency is created by women in places like the US-Mexico border.” More
