‘No Place for a Lady’ with Shelby Tisdale, Sept. 18
In the first half of the twentieth century, the canyons and mesas of the Southwest beckoned and the burgeoning field of archaeology thrived. Among those who heeded the call, Marjorie Ferguson Lambert became one of only a handful of women who not only stayed and left their imprint on the study of southwestern archaeology and anthropology but flourished.
Shelby Tisdale will discuss her book, No Place for a Lady, in her presentation “Contributions of Marjorie F. Lambert to Southwest Archaeology.” Tisdale received her Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from the University of Arizona. She is retired director of the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College in Colorado.

'Exploring Mexico’s Valleys of Cuicatlán and Tehuacán' with David Yetman and Alberto Búrquez, Sept. 26
The Valleys of Cuicatlán and Tehuacán are lauded by botanists for their spectacular plant life—they contain the densest columnar cacti forests in the world. Recent archaeological excavations reveal them also to be a formative Mesoamerican site as well. So singular is this region that it is home to the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Mexico’s Valleys of Cuicatlán and Tehuacán, From Deserts to Clouds authors David Yetman and Alberto Búrquez will show photographs, sign books, and tell stories about the culture, history, and environment of an extraordinary region of southern Mexico.
