About this collection

Two attached manuscripts, in two hands, that concern Mexican Emporer Agustín de Iturbide. The first one, a single page, was written by one of his supporters, and gives a brief account of the proclamation of Mexican independence on February 24, 1821, and the Plan de Iguala. The remaining seven pages, written by a detractor, describe Iturbide's rise to power and his fight with Congress, from the date of the installation of the First Constituent Congress, February 24, 1822, until the day of Iturbide's proclamation as Emperor, May 19, 1822. An English summary is filed with the manuscript.
