#WeAreUAZLibraries is a bi-weekly series that introduces our staff on Facebook and Instagram. Meet Octavio (Tavo) Fuentes!

What do you do?

I am the Libraries’ Assistant Dean, Finance and Administration. I lead the great, professional, and dedicated folks that work in the Libraries Business Center and Facilities, Shipping, Bindery, & Collections teams.

How long have you worked for University Libraries?

I have worked at the Libraries twice. Total, I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the Libraries for about four years!

What’s your favorite library resource or service and why?

The spaces! I love all the innovative and responsive ways the Libraries work towards making the spaces in the different libraries comfortable, productive, collaborative, and safe, allowing our students to do their best work. Beyond the “stuff," my absolute favorite thing about the Libraries are the people who work here. Without a doubt, our best asset is the amazing staff we have throughout the organization all dedicated to serving our patrons and the University of Arizona community.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I am a proud product of Tucson’s south side! I am a first generation college graduate (UA alumnus – woot woot!). I value the importance of travel as a means for personal growth. I lived and worked in the Middle East for four years, and I now try to take one international trip per year.
