#WeAreUAZLibraries is a bi-weekly series that introduces our staff on Facebook and Instagram. Meet Michelle Halla!

What do you do?

I am the Manager of Reference for Access and Information Services (AIS). My department is the public face of the library, and I oversee our reference services whether you are seeking help in person, over the phone, or through chat or email. I also work with others to develop and provide training for our staff and student employees.

How long have you worked for University Libraries?

I’ve been here for 4 years. I have worked in AIS that whole time, but have held 4 different positions (including my current position)!

What’s your favorite library resource or service and why?

Our chat service! Our chat is available all hours that the Main Library is open (all but 16 hrs/week during the fall and spring semesters). You can get research assistance and all your library questions answered without leaving your couch.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I love road trips and one of my favorite places is Sequoia National Park. I will buy (almost) anything with a cactus print on it. I’m passionate about helping kids in foster care, and I’ve been a foster parent for 3 years.
