Congratulations to Cassandra SillikJacqueline Larson, and Julie Fonseca, who were awarded a 2021 Naomi and Samuel Greenfield Endowed Scholarship!

This annual $1,000 scholarship for library student employees was established by long-time librarian Louise Greenfield and her husband, Simon Rosenblatt, to honor the kindness Greenfield’s parents demonstrated throughout their lives.

Students are invited to submit a 500-word essay about how they exhibit kindness, consideration, and cooperation in the workplace.

Cassandra Sillik

Cassandra works at the libraries as a resource sharing student employee. Her job involves paging, express retrieval, check-in, and search services assisting library users and departments.

“I continue to strive to understand what a customer may need or fellow worker," Cassandra wrote. "I do this because I want to make things as seamless as possible and a wonderful stress-free experience.”

Jacqueline Larson
Major: Public Health, minor in Studio Art

Jacqueline works at our Ask Us service desk. After college, she plans to either attend graduate school, join the Peace Corps, or work for the Getty Museum. In addition to working at the library, she's involved with University of Arizona National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Center for Community Campus Connections, the University of Arizona Museum of Contemporary Art, and Student Engagement and Career Development.

“The library is a place where each and every individual is respectful and understanding of one another," wrote Jacqueline. "It is a place where everyone is willing to teach something new or answer any questions one may have. It is a learning space where any student worker is able to grow as an individual.”

Julie Fonseca
Major: Public Health, emphasis in One Health

Julie works at the Ask Us service desk in our Access and Information Services department. After graduation, she plans to work as a public health professional for the City of Tucson and will be applying for her master’s in nursing. “Daily, I am reminded through my work that kindness and service is an essential component to the success of our students, library staff, and myself," Julie wrote. "While being of service to others, I’ve been molded into an empathetic and considerate individual.”
