Pop-Up Botanica: Enduring Indigenous Medicine

An exhibit on Indigenous healing systems

The University of Arizona Health Sciences Library is collaborating with Dr. Patrisia Gonzales, an associate professor in the departments of Mexican American Studies (MAS) and American Indian Studies in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, to host the exhibit, Pop-Up Botanica: Enduring Indigenous Medicine.

The exhibit focuses on Indigenous healing systems, which corresponds with the healing practices used by peoples of the U.S.-Mexico border region. MAS student-created shadow boxes are featured along with a 3D video displaying traditional healing items such as herbs and potions. Visitors are invited to view the 3D video with virtual reality headsets or iPads provided at the exhibit. Information resources from the National Library of Medicine are part of the exhibit as well.

The exhibit is funded in part by the Network of National Libraries of Medicine Region 4 Engagement and Outreach Project Award.
