#WeAreUAZLibraries is a bi-weekly series that introduces our staff on Facebook and Instagram. Meet Javad Basij!

What do you do?

I supervise our Access & Information Services staff at the Health Sciences Library, help train student employees, and regularly work the Ask Us desk. I’m also the Health Sciences Library building manager and am responsible for ensuring that library operations run smoothly during our 24/7 schedule.

How long have you worked for University Libraries?

34 years

What’s your favorite library resource or service and why?

My favorite library service are the Finals Survival Week activities that we provide. It’s a great opportunity for us to help the students, and I really enjoy being able to be part of it. I can see how much the free coffee, fruit, donuts, dog petting, and other things we do help students relax, study, and be better prepared for their exams.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I become a grandfather for the first time on December 16 of last year, and I can’t tell you how much I enjoy seeing Carter’s smile, laugh, and giggling face every single day!
