Library renovations & what you need to know

Wilbur the Wildcat in front of the Main Library

We're starting a major renovation project that will transform the Main Library and the Albert B. Weaver Science-Engineering Library into the active, collaborative teaching and learning spaces that you've requested. These renovations are part of a larger initiative known as the Student Success District - more information coming in January! The library renovations are expected to be completed by the end of Spring 2020, and renovation work will be in phases to minimize disruption.

To find spaces less affected by construction, talk to our staff at the Ask Us desks, try the 5th floor in both libraries, or reserve a quiet study room.

Where we're headed

The learning process for University of Arizona students doesn't stop outside the traditional classroom. In fact, learning happens inside libraries every day.

The library renovations that are part of the Student Success District are motivated by three key drivers:

  • collaborative peer-to-peer learning, where students gain critical thinking skills by working with each other;
  • hands-on active learning and teaching, where students gain knowledge through creating and problem-solving; and
  • deep engagement with technology, where students create and learn from digital content in our expanded makerspace.

By re-envisioning our library spaces with these drivers in mind, we're making it possible for every student to experience success.

This is how renovation inspires innovation. If you want to be a disruptive problem-solver, you're in the right place.
